Supporting Berkshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre! World MS Day brings the global MS community together to share stories, raise awareness and campaign with and for everyone affected by multiple sclerosis!
The 2018 campaign will be called #bringinguscloser and the theme is research.
We will be rowing the entire river Thames from Lechlade Bridge through to Gravesend! A whole 146 miles of rowing taking up roughly 3 days to complete on a rolling rotation of 2 people rowing at all times and 1 person sleeping and resting.
Support us row through the Heart of London! Fully suited for our daily commute!
Isaac Kenyon and Jack Hopkins will be attempting the British Record for the furthest distance rowed using an ergometer over 24 hours as a tandem, taking turns for shifts of 30 mins long on rotation. They hope to make it onto the Concept 2 website.
This Easter Atlantic Discovery team members, Ben and Isaac will be attempting to try and break the world record for the longest continuous row on an indoor rowing machine in the lightweight (Isaac is a LWT) and heavyweight (Ben is a HWT) categories respectively (there is simply no way to make that sound catchy). With the current LWT and HWT record sitting at 80 hours, Isaac is looking to smash through the 80 hour mark whilst Ben is in favour of taking it to the next level and hitting triple digits to reach 100 hours!!! Let the destroyed hands, ruined bottoms and mind-numbing boredom commence!
So why are we going to be pushing ourselves to the limit like this? Well, in addition to getting a posh bit of paper and our names in lights (OK, on the Concept2 website and Guinness World Records), we are also trying to raise money for 2 fabulous charities – The Multiple Sclerosis Society and The Berkshire MS Therapy Centre.
We have chosen our charities for personal reasons. Ben’s mother Rose was sadly diagnosed with MS in 2002; while Leanne’s cousin lost his battle with mental health when he was just 42. These charities do amazing work supporting not only those affected, but also their loved ones too.
Taking part in Sea Survival Training
his January Atlantic Discovery team members Jack, Ben and Isaac will be joined by Camilla and Leanne broke the world record for the mixed team longest continuous row on an indoor rowing machine (there is simply no way to make that sound catchy). With the current record sitting at a measly 30 hours, we smashed through the 33 hour mark. Our destroyed hands, ruined bottoms and the mind-numbing boredom was well worth the chance to get onto the Concept 2 World Records! We are currently awaiting our record to be accepted by Guinness World Records!
